242/366 • The Stormy Lighthouse

One more from my recent visit to the Baily Lighthouse in Dublin. Three generations of my family trained or worked at this lighthouse before it was automated in 1996. The last of the Keepers left in March 1997, making the Baily the last Irish lighthouse to go automatic. A lighthouse has been on, or near this spot, since 1667. The original coal-fired beacon lighthouse was slightly further up the hill and a new lighthouse was constructed in this current position in 1814. I remember visiting this place when I was a child so it was really nice to go back after so many years. I grabbed this photo as we were leaving and the storm clouds were rolling in. You can actually see the rain in the distance...
